Water Heater Closet

The contractors retrofitted our bathroom closet to fit a new water heater, did a bit more demo in the bathroom, and patched the cracks in the original woodwork panels under the historic windows.  They left grout colors out for us and we picked our grout for all our tile work.

Demo

The contractors started demo today.  They removed our kitchen floor and the bathroom sink, toilet and floor.  The electrician started changing the light fixtures in the pass through over the bar, and upgraded our electrical panel!

IKEA problems

One of the improvements we are making is putting a double sink into the bathroom.  We found a small double sink that will work at IKEA.  We figured we would put the cabinet portion together ourselves, as we can only assume that contractors hate IKEA instructions even more than lay people.

After a day  of attempting to put together our new white bathroom sink cabinet missing about 1/3 of the parts, calling IKEA three times, taking a bus, renting a car, driving to Stoughton, buying ANOTHER cabinet, putting THAT together, we ended up with a gray bathroom cabinet we love.  IKEA furniture is either a massive success or a massive bust – there is no middle ground.

Today we brought Mannie over to the new house with us.  He did pretty good.  We made him a box to sit in where he could hang out with us and feel safe.  When we were cleaning up to head home, he hid in Jeannette’s sweatshirt that was hanging on the front door knob – he did not want to be forgotten!

Contractor Got Started

The contractors took down the broken medallion and old pendant light from the front bedroom, removed all the speakers and surround sound, and pulled all the gross cords and cables from along the original crown moldings.  We have got almost all of the fixtures ready for them and sitting in the front room!  We are so excited!

New Medallions!

We bought a replacement medallion for the red room.  The previous owners had broken all the interior petals off the room”s original medallion in order to cram a new light fixture in there.  That was sad, but we love the new one.  We also decided to get a medallion for the master.  There wasn’t one in there originally, but we do love medallions.  We picked them up from Boston Ornament today.  We were already super impressed by their products just from their website – but after seeing their shop – we were even more impressed.  They have awesome stuff.
