Making the liquor cabinet & more progress

This weekend we made our new liquor cabinet that Jeannette has wanted for a long time. The reviews said it was difficult to put together and they weren’t lying. It wasn’t a matter of following the 10 page book of directions, but figuring out how to make your own directions when the book didn’t work. It was a crazy long night. We started loading it up today (note: our skylight is a little bright in some of the pictures).

We moved the bikes and bike rack to the back stair to make room for the cabinet. We also managed to finish the kitchen and the eating area today (even managed to eat at the table today). We have to leave a stool and cardboard contraption blocking the bottom of the fridge from kitty paws. It’s like astro turf made of rodent poison under the fridge – which also attracts & kills kitties. So that’s another project for another day: moving the fridge and performing a strategic eradication of poison.

Another remaining project for the kitchen is to hang a spice rack on the wall by the sink (removing the massive spice clutter from the microwave). Jeannette still needs to recaulk the countertop too, maybe next weekend when Josh hangs blinds.

Enjoy the photos. We’ll take non-phone camera photos soon.

It’s really starting to feel like home! (And Jeannette LOVES her cabinet!)

Progress Update

We spent the rest of the weekend cleaning decades of grime out of the oven and oven drawer, setting up our internet and wireless router after the cable guy came, setting up the sound system, unpacking more boxes, rearranging furniture a bit more, recycling a few trees worth of brand new cardboard boxes because we couldn’t find anyone who needed them, putting together the kitchen table, and washing a few more window sills of packed in dirt.

We also checked out the SOWA open market. It is a little less farmer and a little more artisan. BUT there is a super cool antique market in the trolley garage. Too bad we needed produce and not antiques.

We still have more unpacking. We are waiting on a cupboard (Thanks Mom and Dad!!!) to arrive so we can unpack more kitchen stuff, and hopefully locate our dish soap in the process. We also have new chairs! (Thanks Mom and Dad!!!) Photos of chairs and progress made to come!

Unpacking Progress

Not so much in the bedroom, but in two hours, the living room already looks like it could be home!  And now we’re down to ONE of those stinking HUGE wardrobe boxes.

A weekend of unpacking

We got started on the unpacking. It is a monster job. There definitely isn’t space for everything in the kitchen. So we got started on some unpacking there, then moved on to trying get the huge wardrobe boxes unpacked and out of the living room. Currently, the bathroom has some of our only standing room.
