Professor Watson’s 80th Birthday Celebration

We were blessed to celebrate the 80th birthday of our 1st House Master of MIT‘s Baker House, Professor Will Watson. The fabulous shindig was at his social club, The Club of Odd Volumes.

MIT 150 Festival

MIT is having a big party for its 150th anniversary year. As a part of the grand who-ha there was an awesome arts, science and technology festival – basically all sorts of art and technology installations all over campus.  It was pretty darn incredible. The photos below are just a sampling – you really should check out the website. Many installations were interactive, responding to the amount of traffic driving across the Mass Ave bridge, or how many people were sitting on pods, or other motion or activity-based light and movement installations across the institute.

8th Walk For Hunger (& Mug Card Finish!)

We have now walked 160 miles to raise awareness of the hunger issues in our neighborhoods and the funds to support the fight against hunger.  We want to send our sincerest thanks for your support this year (and past years) of our efforts.  This was our 8th walk with Project Bread and The Walk For Hunger.  This year, 42,000 people joined together to raise $3.6 million to provide food for 448 emergency food programs in our cities and towns.  The funds will provide a hot meal or a bag of groceries for hungry families next winter.

Thank you for helping us raise over $1,200 in an effort to affect positive and systemic change to prevent hunger.    Also the team we started at Baker House has now raised over $30,000 to fight hunger!  We are proud.

Project Bread advocates change in our community and, while feeding the hungry now, attempts to implement changes to END hunger for the future.  It is an organization we believe in and have chosen to support for the last eight years.  We cannot express how grateful we are for your generosity and support in helping us strive for change in our community.

It was a gorgeous day for a walk this year and we started bright and early so we would be done in time to watch the Celtics game.  After we crossed the finish line, we walked another mile back home and back to our pub to watch the game and finish off our mug cards! We figured it was a grand way to celebrate another successful Walk – we our now proud mug owners at our local pub.

Red Sox Game 3 – W v Blue Jays – 9-1

Fiallen Game 3

Our dear friend Bloomer called us up with extra tickets to the Patriots Day afternoon game.  We had a great time catching up with him, watching the Sox get another win, spending some time in the sun and then watching some of the Boston Marathon as it runs right past Fenway. We saw some of our old Baker House kids dressed up as the Baker House mascots on the route.  Bloomer can see the race from his roof – it’s pretty cool.
